Everyone that has done something great started as a dreamer.

Dreams give us something to aim for, but they can't take us there.

At some point, you've got to evolve from dreamer to doer.

Here is a brand new Wisdom Made Easy visual to complement today’s principle of wisdom:

There's nothing wrong with dreaming. In fact, it's often where great things begin, right?

But dreams only become something more when we start applying ourselves and doing the work.

Today’s saying puts it plainly:

❝

“The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing.”

- Walt Disney

Dreaming, planning and talking all have their place.

But eventually, progress requires action. You have to start.

Simon Squibb has built an enormous audience by asking strangers one simple question:

“What's your dream?”

He regularly hears that people want to start businesses, change careers, create things and make a difference. Simon will often even help them identify their first step, even employing them for their first gig.

But knowing your first step and taking it are two very different things.

That's what separates dreamers from doers.

We all have things we'd love to do. Far fewer of us actually begin.

If you’re reading this thinking “I’m a dreamer…”, here are 3 tips to evolve into a doer:

  1. Name the Dream

Get clear about what you actually want.

Don't worry about how you'll achieve everything yet, just get clear with naming your dream.

    Direction comes first.

  2. Find the First Step

Turn the abstract into the actionable.

Want to build an audience? Your first step might simply be publishing one piece of content.
Do you long to become a performer? Perhaps sign up to an open-mic night.
Dreaming of moving abroad? Consider starting to budget money for a relocating fund.

Make it specific enough that you know exactly what to do.

  3. Just Do It, and Don’t Do It Alone

This is the bit that matters.

    Take the step.

Give yourself a deadline, tell a friend or share your commitment with someone who'll hold you accountable, and then get after it.

And if you want, tell me!

Reply to this email and share your dream and the first step you're going to take. I'd genuinely love to hear it.

Let’s dive deeper into today’s wisdom with these 3 journal prompts:

  • What's a dream I want to pursue?

  • What's the first practical step towards it?

  • Who will I tell to help me follow through?

Today’s resource is What's Your Dream? by Simon Squibb.

Squibb's book is about identifying what you really want from life and actually doing something about it.

It's a practical companion for anyone who's spent plenty of time thinking about their dream, but hasn't quite started pursuing it yet.

And as we’ve established today, you don't need to have the whole journey figured out, you just take the first step, and perhaps picking up this book is your first step.
