Today’s newsletter is a bit different.

It’s just 1 idea, 1 visual and 2 journal prompts.

Now let’s get WISER together!

🌧️ When It Rains…

A lived experience that we can all relate to is getting caught in the rain.

Perhaps you’ve stepped out to enjoy a lovely day in nature, and then you get caught in a storm.

Rain starts hammering down and as your clothes begin to dampen, the wind picks up with the brutal breeze brazenly bruising any hope you had for the day.

I’m not only talking about the literal weather here.

Sometimes we go through seasons in our lives where things feel difficult.

No matter what you’re trying to achieve, you just can’t stop the negative things raining down and trying to bring your mood down with it.

I have some bad news for you:

You can’t stop the rain.

But before we resign to that fact and give up, I have a word of advice for you.

🪣 …Get a Bucket

Even though you can’t change the rain from falling, you can change your relationship with the rain.

The inspiration for this visual and newsletter come from my experience of buying a water butt for our house last year.

For those of you that aren’t aware, a water butt is a large container that collects water, typically attached to your drain pipes.

This means that whenever it rains, water is collected for use instead of going down the drain.

We acquired one last year because we don’t have access to water in our garden.

Any time we wanted to water our plants on the handful of hot days that we experience in the UK, we would have to fill a watering can up in our kitchen sink, then walk it through our house to the garden, repeating this process roughly 5 times.

But ever since I installed the water butt, it’s completely changed my relationship with the rain.

Whenever I get caught in a downpour, my first thought isn’t “Ugh not the rain…”

Instead, my mind now thinks “Oh neat! My water butt is filling up!”

I haven’t stopped the rain, but I have got a glorified bucket.

🤔 Why Should I Care?

You might be reading this thinking “I don’t care about your water butt, Michael!”

Well, you probably shouldn’t.

As with all of these newsletters, I don’t bring up these anecdotes or wisdom that I’m trying to understand for self-indulgence.

Instead, I encourage you to reflect on whether this approach could apply to your life.

What is the silver lining that you could apply to your cloud?

Consider reflecting on the following 2 questions:

📝 Journal Prompts

• Are you experiencing any 'rain' at the moment? If so, what?
• What is a 'bucket' that you could use to make the most of the 'rain'?
