Now let’s get WISER together!

✍️ Why I Journal

If you’ve followed me for a while, you’ll know that I am a big fan of journaling.

This set of visuals that I shared on LinkedIn shares 8 reasons why you should journal.

But today I wanted to share 1 of the biggest reasons why I journal.

Well, actually there’s 35 reasons.

That’s right! I’ve filled 35 journals!

Sure, they’re small in size, but they’re HUGE in value.

But what makes them so valuable?

💪 Evidence That I Overcome Challenges

Each journal is evidence of the person I am and the challenges that I have overcome.

Whenever I find myself wrestling with who I am, my self-worth or doubting what I am capable of, I revisit these pages to prove my negative thoughts wrong.

It’s not to say that I didn’t overcome challenges before I started journaling, but I didn’t record any evidence to return to when my mental health was at its worst.

Here’s a few examples of things I’ve recorded that confirm I am someone who overcomes hardship:

  • Making it through 16 weeks without seeing my then-girlfriend, now-wife in person in Journals #001 - #004

  • Beating the competition to secure a promotion at work in Journal #019

  • Managing the turbulence of reducing my antidepressant medication until I could function without them in Journal #025

  • Overcoming the stress of purchasing and decorating my first house in Journal #035

I encourage you to start recording evidence that you can overcome challenges too!

😊 BONUS REASON: Reliving Precious Moments

Journaling also enables you to relive the most cherished moments.

For example, I have immortalised the moving words that Zac’s father shared at Zac’s beautiful wedding in Journal #003.

I also have the reflections of how I felt on the day that I proposed to my wife in Journal #005.

My wedding, my first visit to my wife’s family, starting Wisdom Made Easy, the last time I saw my nan before she passed, and buying our first home together - all of these experiences and the way I felt at the time has been recorded for me to relive in the years to come!

Wouldn’t you want to revisit your favourite memories?

Start journaling today.

✍️ Journal Prompts

• Have you ever tried journaling?
• How do you keep track of the type of person you are?
• Do you have a record of the challenges that you’ve overcome?

Consider journaling through the above questions yourself.
