Today I want to share 3 Lessons from My Favourite Book: The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry.
Let’s get WISER together!
✅ Do You Really Understand the Cost?
We often take on too much.
It’s easy to say “yes” whenever we’re asked to offer support or share our expertise with our loved ones, peers and audience.
But something that John Mark Comer highlights in this book is that we often don’t weigh up the true implications of saying “Yes”:
“Life is a series of choices. Every yes is a thousand nos. Every activity we give our time to is a thousand other activities we can’t give our time to.”
- John Mark Comer

This reflection isn’t about encouraging you to be more selfish. It’s not about saying no when our loved ones need support.
But it’s about getting the balance right and recognising when our time could be better spent.
Here’s a couple of questions to reflect on:
📝 What opportunities do I regret missing out on because I was too busy?
📝 What areas of my life could I benefit from saying “No” more frequently?
❤️🔥 You Will Burnout If You Don’t Rest
Did you know that there’s evidence to suggest that resting 1 day a week could extend your life expectancy?
There’s been numerous studies into Seventh Day Adventists which have found that they live approximately 10-15 years longer than their national average.
You can read more about a particular study conducted in Poland here.
This is a principle that John Mark Comer speaks about in great detail in The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry.
Even if you don’t identify as a follower of Jesus and observe the Sabbath, you will benefit from slowing down and getting at least 1 day of rest per week.
Simply put:

Here’s a couple of questions to get you thinking about your relationship with rest:
📝 How many days per months do I genuinely rest?
📝 What would an ideal rest day look like for myself?
👀 What Has Your Attention?
This last reflection is a simple one:
“What you give your attention to is the person you become.”
- John Mark Comer
Those of you that have followed me for a while may be familiar with this principle.
In fact, it’s not dissimilar to one of my favourite quotes from James Clear:
“Every action you take is a vote for the type of person you wish to become.”
- James Clear

Time to grab a paper & pen again:
📝 What do you give your attention to the most?
📝 What type of person will you become if you continue to give your attention to that?
📝 Journal Prompts
