Stop Searching For Answers šŸš«

Let's Get WISER together!

Estimated reading time: 3 minutes, 37 seconds

Donā€™t solely focus on having all the right answers.

Wisdom can be found in asking the right questions.

Practice asking better questions.

Todayā€™s simple visual is inspired by one of my favourite authorā€™s quotes:

ā€œThe beginner chases the right answers. The master chases the right questions.ā€

James Clear

Hereā€™s another quote that serves as a great example where todayā€™s wisdom wasnā€™t embraced, courtesy of Spielbergā€™s Jurassic Park:

ā€œYour scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should.ā€

Dr. Ian Malcom (Jurassic Park)

Despite this being a fictional example, we can learn a lot from it.

Grave consequences were experienced because no one had the wisdom to ask the right questions.

One of the best things that you can do for your own personal development is learn how to ask better questions.

Many people feel insecure about asking questions.

They think that it communicates an ignorance or ineptitude.

But when someone asks me a question, itā€™s rare that Iā€™m angered by them asking.

Instead, I recognise a humility and a hunger to grow!

Thereā€™s value in becoming comfortable in asking questions.

As with most things, we get better with practice, so try to embrace opportunities to ask questions.

Similar to when Jeff Goldblumā€™s character asked this question in the original Jurassic Park movie, thereā€™s been numerous instances throughout history where people have pressed ahead with trying to answer a question, when they may have been better served with asking the right question first.

It often requires courage to ask the right question, but the reward is worth the risk.

Today is your encouragement to ask questions and grow in asking better ones.

Now itā€™s your time to reflect on todayā€™s wisdom.

Consider journaling your responses to the following questions:

  • What question do I regularly reflect on?

  • Would I describe myself as someone who asks good questions?

  • What opportunities do I have to ask the right questions?

Todayā€™s resource comes courtesy of someone who is great at asking questions: James Clear.

Not only did he share the quote that inspired todayā€™s visual and release one of the most popular books of this century, but he also happens to share a free newsletter with his 3,000,000 subscribers every week.
