I recently thought about giving up Wisdom Made Easy.

No, that is not a joke. I genuinely asked my business partner Zac "Is this all worth it?"

This thought crossed my mind as I was looking at yet another account trying to impersonate Wisdom Made Easy on Instagram.

There's been a lot popping up over the last few months.

A follower even messaged us to say that they had been scammed out of £800 by one of them.

But this one was different.

This particular impersonator managed to access a personal photo of myself and shared it on their feed to make it look more credible.

This might not sound that bad, but imagine being told that there’s someone going round pretending to be you.

Now imagine that they had shared a personal photo from a family holiday that you hadn’t even posted online yourself. This means that they had sourced it by finding it on a personal friend or family member’s account.

It was a cocktail of emotions: rage, terror and violated.

✌️ And So I Thought About Quitting

I’m sure that some of you can respect this decision, right?

Naturally, my family’s wellbeing and safety is one of my top priorities, and to see that jeopardised or to see them used to scam individuals like you just made me want to turn ‘n’ run.

And I am not the only creator to contemplate this either.

My good friend Pejman Milani of Milani Creative and I recently reflected over a compelling article that Tim Ferris wrote back in 2020 called 11 Reasons Not to Become Famous.

Granted, we wouldn’t consider ourselves famous, but we have to acknowledge that we have growing followings, and we may experience some of the same concerns that Tim warns us about like “harassment of family members and loved ones” or “extortion attempts.”

But even with these risks, I am not going to quit.

You may be going through challenges that is making you think about throwing in the towel. Here’s a tip that I used to stay on track:

💭 Remind Yourself of Your Why

If we go back to my earlier question to Zac, we have to look at both sides of the equation.

Sure, the price of doing Wisdom Made Easy means that we may have people impersonating us, but that’s because we get to do what we love every single day!

We get to encourage you and the other 100,000+ in this community about getting wiser - there’s nothing that I want to do more with my life!

For those of you that don’t know, I started posting visual representations of wisdom online because I believe that is what I am meant to be doing in this season of adulthood.

Having participated in The Calling Lab (hosted by my local MicroChurch) and reflecting on Proverbs 4:7, I knew that this was my “why”.

Even with the impersonation attempts, it is worth it because I get to live out my calling - it is my mission.

So when you’re contemplating giving up, I invite you to return to your why.

😂 Bonus Tip: Find The Humour

I’d still say that impersonation on line is a concern of mine, but I am able to see some of the humour in the situation.

In reality, what do these accounts expect to do?

Until these AI art generation tools learn how to do these doodles, these accounts will struggle to impersonate us for a prolonged period of time, right? 😂

Finding humour in these sorts of things can help to make them palatable.

For that reason, I recreated the following meme:

When you’re able to laugh about something, it doesn’t seem so daunting.

Perhaps you can find something humorous in what you’re going through too?

✍️ Journal Prompts

• What is your mission? What is your why?
• How did you last overcome the urge to give up?
• How would you encourage people to not give up?

Consider journaling through the above questions yourself.

👍 Recommendations

Here’s a couple of things that we think will compliment this week’s newsletter and will help you to get wiser:

1️⃣ The first recommendation is Simon Sinek’s book Start With Why.

In this book, Simon shares how great leaders often do the counter cultural by inspiring their teams with the “Why” and not the “What.”

Given our reflection today on the importance of your why, I thought you may want to check this out:

2️⃣ Our second recommendation is a YouTube video by Colin and Samir with Tim Ferris.

It’s a truly thought provoking conversation with one of the world’s best podcasts hosts.

I found myself scribbling down countless quotes and ideas from this interview.

You won’t want to miss it!
