Someday I'll Write a Children's Book

The Power of Public Accountability

Hello 5,639 friends, Michael here!

Today we’re excited to have a guest writer to share a nugget of wisdom with you!

Kacy Maxwell has been a long-time supporter of Wisdom Made Easy, and he’s recently been through an experience that we can all benefit from hearing about.

Without any further ado, let’s get WISER with Kacy!

📖 Once Upon a Time…

Inspiration for my first children’s book came to me one night when I was putting my son to bed and he asked me to tell him a story.

Most of the stories I told on the fly were terrible but this one started off with a great premise.

A boy wakes up one morning to the shocking discovery that he has grown horns overnight. The strangest part is that he is the only one who can see them. And not only did it start with a good hook but I was able to land the plane with a solid ending.

My son even said it was great and asked me to tell it the next few nights.

I knew something was there.

🤔 Someday…

But the unknown of how to do all the other things like actually writing it or illustrating and especially self-publish was too overwhelming to think about.

So it sat in my mind as a someday idea for 5 years.

Then, last December I finally worked up the courage to post on social media that I was planning to write, illustrate and publish my first kids book on April 10, 2023.

I still didn’t know how to do any of it but I was tired of saying “one day I will do this.”

💪 The Power of Accountability

That post did something for me that I didn’t expect. It created accountability.

During the 5 months that followed, I continued to share publicly everything I learned about how to self-publish. As a result, people would constantly ask me how the book was coming along.

It gave me a level of good peer pressure and encouragement needed to deliver on my promise.

If I hadn’t done that post, this book might still be sitting in my pile of someday goals.

🎯 Set a Goal and Share It

Too often we keep our goals private which puts all the responsibility of motivation on our willpower, which will eventually fail.

But taking the risk of bringing others into this journey can often give us the push we need when it gets hard.

It’s Michael again!

We just want to say a HUGE thank you to Kacy for sharing this nugget of wisdom with us all.

Now that you’ve read this, what’re you going to do about it?

Consider the following journal prompts:

✍️ Journal Prompts

• What is your main goal in life at the moment?
• Could you make that goal public? Where do you need the push?
• What’s one step you can take towards your goal this week?

Consider journaling through the above questions yourself.
