The Message You Need to Hear if You’re Struggling to Get Started
Hello 1,983+ friends, it’s Michael here!
Thanks for checking out this issue of the WISER Newsletter.
Let’s get WISER together!
Where It All Began…
Given that we have quite a few of you join the WISER community in last week because Steven Bartlett re-shared one of our visuals, I thought today would be a great opportunity to speak about how it doesn’t matter where you are in your journey, if you know your why and have value to provide.
For this, I’d like to take you back to something that happened in May 2022, when I was first starting out.
❓ Start with Why
I’ve recently started listening to Simon Sinek’s Start with Why. Much of what Simon preaches about purpose resonates with me, and this is where I started with Wisdom Made Easy.
When I first posted visuals online, my heart for the content then was the same as it is now: to get wiser and encourage other people to get wiser.
Because I knew that there was a purpose behind the publishing, I didn’t personally experience as much of the imposter syndrome that some do.
I wasn’t thinking “Should I be doing this?”
Instead, I was thinking “I know that I should be doing this, so just get on with it.”
This confidence was largely in part because I spent some time investing in what I was meant to be doing in the next season in my life, having taken part in The Calling Lab with the FLTR Community Microchurch.
But it’s not just a mutual belief of the importance of purpose that makes Simon relevant to this story. The first visual that really started our following for Wisdom Made Easy was based on a quote by Simon on the Diary of a CEO podcast.
🥇 “Cause Comes First”
In this particular episode of Steven’s podcast, he essentially asks Simon about the whether metric goals are important, or whether the focus should be on your cause, to which Simon replies:
“There is a hierarchy - the cause comes first.”
Hearing this, I created this visual:
Let’s be honest, this visual is not that special.
It’s a simple triangle, I’ve misspelled “hierarchy”, and the spacing and sizing are painfully inconsistent.
But even with all these shortcomings, this visual is what started our growth on Instagram.
At the point of posting this visual, Wisdom Made Easy had 27 followers, yet Steven (or rather his social media team) saw this visual, and thought it was worth featuring on both their Instagram Story and the community tab of YouTube.
In the space of a single day, my following grew tenfold, and I felt even more reassured that I what I felt called to do in this season was going to be of benefit to other people.
A couple weeks later, I found Steven in my DMs asking to see if we could work together to visualise more of his quotes. You could imagine my excitement.
🤷♂️ But Why Am I Bringing This Up?
Because I think someone needs to hear this story.
Why?
Because you might be putting off doing that thing because you don’t feel qualified, or because you don’t have the social proof, or because you don’t have the “right tools.”
You need to know that you don’t need any of that.
What I’ve shared today is proof of that, right?
With less than 100 followers, no real qualifications in art/graphic design, and the ignorance not to use spellchecker, I managed to get featured on one of the most exciting creator’s/entrepreneur’s platform by merely producing a visual representation of a podcast quote.
I merely knew my why and had value to provide. The rest is history.
Since then, Wisdom Made Easy has grown to a following of over 100,000, I’ve managed to bring a partner onboard, we’ve registered as a Limited company, been able to produce visuals for some awesome clients, and even released our first digital product. This has all happened in the space of a year.
I didn’t have a right to do this, but I knew the “why” and that was enough to get started.
Start with your why.
❓ Do You Know Your Why?
Do you know your why, your calling, or your purpose?
Are you currently putting something off because you don’t feel ready?
Do you know how you can provide value?
✍️ Consider journalling through the above questions yourself.

Recommendations
Here are a couple recommendations based on today’s content.
1️⃣ The first recommendation is to check out Simon Sinek’s book Start With Why.
I’ve not even finished this book yet, and I already know that it is worth you listening to too!
It features some empowering concepts about how the greatest leaders motivate and sell through the power of storytelling by starting with why.

2️⃣ The second recommendation is to check out The Diary of a CEO episode that I referenced earlier featuring Simon Sinek.
He’s had a few appearance because he’s such a wise guest, but today I referenced his first appearance.

Here’s why Hannah Wilson of Quoted Visually rated it 5/5 stars:
“Nailed it! Really pleased with this journalling guide. When we are trying to form a new habit, it helps to understand the back story for why the thing is important, because when we have a strong ‘why’ we are more compelled to do the thing.
