The words you use shape the limits you live by.
One small word can be the difference between staying stuck and continuing to grow.

Here’s a playful Wisdom Made Easy visual to illustrate this point:

“I can’t” closes the door.
“I can’t yet” leaves it open.
Two identical doors. Two completely different outcomes.
One reflects no attempt, no progress, no possibility.
The other features the same starting point, but now there’s hope, potential, and even an invitation to grow.
The difference? One little word, but the real difference is a gulf in mentality.

Here is today’s Saying of wisdom:
“Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t - you’re right.”
Our beliefs quietly guide our actions.
If we convince ourselves something is impossible, we won’t even try.
But when we leave space for possibility, we give ourselves permission to grow into what once felt out of reach.

It’s incredible how often we shut doors on ourselves without even realising it.
“I’m not good at this.”
“I can’t do that.”
“That’s just not for me.”
These statements feel factual but they’re often just conclusions we’ve drawn too early.
Adding “yet” changes everything. It acknowledges where you are without locking you there.
Here are 3 simple ways to apply this approach:
Catch and reframe your language
Start noticing when you say “I can’t.”
Pause and add “yet.”
It feels small, but it rewires how you approach challenges.
Treat ability as something you build, not something you have
Most people you admire weren’t naturally great, they practised.
“Yet” reminds you that skill is developed, not assigned.
Take one step toward the open door
Belief alone isn’t enough but it unlocks action.
Once the door is open, take the smallest step forward.
You don’t need to be capable today.
You just need to stay open to becoming capable tomorrow.

Let’s dive deeper into today’s wisdom with these 3 journal prompts:
Where in my life have I been saying “I can’t” instead of “I can’t yet”?
What’s one area I’ve written off too quickly that deserves another attempt?
What small step could I take today if I believed improvement was possible?

Today’s resource is Carol Dweck’s Mindset.
(Can you tell that I’m currently spending a lot of time mulling over mindset?)
Nevertheless, this book is a must-read.
This book explores the power of a growth mindset; the belief that your abilities can develop over time.
It’s the foundation behind the simple word “yet,” and it shows how shifting your thinking can transform what you’re capable of achieving.
