Some worship at the temple, and others worship at their timelines.

From songs and sacrifices to screens and scrolling.

Whether you realise it or not, you worship something.

The question is, what will you choose to worship?

Today’s visual is a new one, drawn just for this newsletter!

Today’s visual shows how differently we could define worship.

When you picture worship, what do you think of?

More often than not, you’ll think of a deity or religion.

Perhaps you’ll think of a celebrity, or a sports team.

But you might find yourself giving your love and attention more to whatever device you’re reading this on.

So I ask again: When you picture worship, what do you think of?

Let’s check out today’s Saying:

“Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

- Jesus

This isn’t just a spiritual statement - it’s a diagnostic one.

Your heart follows what you consistently invest in.

Time, money, attention, emotional energy - these are the modern markers of devotion.

Look at where those go, and you’ll find what you truly worship.

When most people hear the word worship, they think of religion.

Songs. Services. Sacred spaces.

But worship is bigger than that.

Worship is whatever captures your imagination, shapes your habits, and influences your decisions. It’s the thing you turn to for comfort, identity, or meaning - especially when life gets hard.

That might be:

  • A sports team that dictates your mood each weekend

  • A performer or public figure you feel deeply attached to

  • Your phone, constantly calling for your attention

  • Success, productivity, or being seen as “winning” at life

None of these are neutral. Over time, what we worship shapes who we become.

Here are three gentle ways to reflect on this:

  1. Pay attention to your attention

What do you instinctively reach for when you’re bored, anxious, or tired?

Attention is often the clearest indicator of devotion.

  2. Notice what disappoints you most

Strong emotional reactions can reveal misplaced expectations.

When something lets you down, ask: What was I hoping this would give me?

  3. Ask what’s forming you

Worship isn’t just about what you admire - it’s about what’s shaping your values, rhythms, and sense of self over time.

Please note that this isn’t about guilt. It’s about awareness.

Because once you notice what you’re worshipping, you get to choose whether it’s worthy of that place in your life.

Let’s dive deeper into today’s wisdom with these 3 journal prompts:

  • What currently receives the most of my time and attention?

  • Where do I go for comfort, validation, or escape?

  • Is what I’m worshipping helping me become who I want to be?

Today’s resource is a powerful video that inspired this newsletter.

When I’m not working on Wisdom Made Easy, I work with a charity called Start to Stir who aim to empower everyday Christians to share their faith anytime, with anyone, anywhere.

Last year we launched Soul Stirrers - some short, shareable videos that stir spiritual curiosity.

Becca that produced this video did a phenomenal job on the edit, and it’s interesting to see so many instances of what the typical individual considers worship juxtaposed against what others may consider modern forms of worship.
