Some of history’s greatest thinkers kept journals.

Putting pen to paper creates space to think, reflect and understand yourself better.

Perhaps there’s growth for you waiting to be unlocked on an empty page.

Here is today’s illustration, explaining why I evangelise about the power of journaling so regularly:

I can't attribute all of that growth to journalling.

But since developing the habit, I've become more intentional about the husband, father, friend, worker and business owner I want to be.

What do you want to grow in?

Today’s Saying summarises perfectly why journaling helps you to grow:

“Self-awareness is a key to self-mastery.”

- Gretchen Ruben

It's difficult to change something you haven't noticed.

Journalling creates space to explore the thoughts you rarely say aloud and greater awareness gives you the opportunity to do something about them.

Few habits have transformed my life as much as journalling.

Since starting in 2020, I've filled dozens of journals with thoughts, questions, prayers, gratitude, frustrations and ideas.

I've also seen its impact on hundreds of other people I've encouraged to journal.

After prayer, I believe it's one of the most powerful practices I've found for becoming wiser.

So today, I want to share 3 simple tips to start journaling:

  1. Lower the barrier.

Forget fancy notebooks, beautiful handwriting or lengthy entries.

Start with one question and a few sentences.

“What's on my mind today?” is plenty to get started.

  2. Make it yours.

    Journalling is personal.

Write about gratitude, worries, decisions, ideas or whatever would be most helpful in your current season.

Don't worry about how someone else does it, because it’s about what works for you.

  3. Give it a fair chance.

Don't judge journalling after 3 days.

Try it consistently for a few weeks and notice what changes.

Small moments of reflection can compound into meaningful growth.

If I could leave you with one last encouragement, it would be this:

Just pick up a pen.

Let’s dive deeper into today’s wisdom with these 3 journal prompts:

  • What’s on my mind today?

  • What would a journalling practice that works for me look like?

  • What could help me keep showing up long enough to experience the benefits?

Today’s resource is Journal Wiser - my free journaling resource.

I used to charge for my journaling course. It generated thousands of pounds, but I eventually realised I'd rather remove the barrier and help more people experience something that's changed my own life.

So I made it free.

Journal Wiser teaches you practical approaches to journalling and helps you find a method that works for you.

If you've been meaning to start, this is your invitation:

Pick up a pen and become wiser.
