Work feels different when it serves something bigger than yourself.

When what you do matters to you, effort feels different.

Meaning turns ordinary work into extraordinary impact.

Here’s a playful Wisdom Made Easy visual to illustrate this point:

On their own, both business and mission are useful, but together they create something entirely new.

The goal isn’t simply to make money, and it’s not simply to have good intentions either.

The magic happens when what you build helps people and sustains itself.

Let’s reflect on one of my favourite quotes:

“Don’t ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive, and go do that, because what the world needs is people who have come alive.”

- Howard Thurman

That’s such an awesome quote, right?

Take a moment to genuinely think about what makes you come alive:

What do you think of when you’re in the shower?
What’s on your mind as you head to bed? Or the first thing you think of when you wake up?
When do you find yourself most energised?

Ultimately, what makes you come alive?

When I started Wisdom Made Easy, it wasn’t supposed to become a business.

It started as a mission.

I simply wanted to help people become wiser and live more intentionally through simple visuals and reflections. Over time, I began to realise the potential of what I was building, and became more ambitious about how many people it could help.

That’s when the mission slowly evolved into a business too.

But even now, some of the moments that mean the most to me aren’t financial. They’re the messages from people saying:

“This resonated with me.”
“I really needed this today.”
“This helped me think differently.”

Those moments remind me why I do this.

Here are 3 ways to begin identifying your own mission or purpose:

  1. Pay attention to what energises you

    What conversations light you up?

What kind of work leaves you fulfilled instead of drained?

Energy is often a clue toward purpose.

  2. Notice what breaks your heart

Sometimes your mission is connected to a problem you wish people didn’t have to face.

The people who help others most are often those who deeply understand a struggle themselves.

  3. Speak with people you trust

Sometimes other people can see patterns in us that we struggle to see ourselves.

Talk with trusted friends, mentors, or family members about what matters deeply to you. They may help you uncover gifts, passions, or opportunities that you’ve overlooked.

Purpose often becomes clearer through conversation.

Let’s dive deeper into today’s wisdom with these 3 journal prompts:

  • What kind of work makes me feel most alive?

  • What problems or struggles do I deeply care about helping people with?

  • If I could dedicate my energy toward helping one group of people, who would it be?

This TED Talk is a powerful encouragement to stop settling for work that drains you and start pursuing work connected to meaning and purpose.

Scott explores the importance of finding work you genuinely care about and building a life around what makes you come alive.
