🧭 Where can you Find Wisdom? 📍

My friend recently sent me a quote from one of my favourite books, and I have been struggling to know how to share it with you.

The book is John Mark Comer’s The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry. Not only does this book having one of the best titles ever, but the contents has been truly life-changing for me.

Comer shares how Jesus lived an unhurried life, and how by simplifying areas of our lives, we make space for more meaningful relationships and intentional living.

Here’s the quote!

“Wisdom is born in the quiet, the slow. Wisdom has its own pace. It makes you wait for it - wait for the inner voice to come to the surface of your tempestuous mind, but not until waters of thought settle and calm. - John Mark Comer

I’m not sure about you, but I think that this quote is really relatable.

It’s rare that I experience the benefits of wisdom when I’m busy, stressed or angry. In fact, I never do.

Last week was stressful for me, and I could’ve done with having wisdom in the midst of all the chaos, but instead I found that when I calmed down for a few hours to journal, that’s when I experienced countless revelations about how I could’ve acted differently.

When I settled in the calming act of journalling, I found wisdom.

✍️ Wisdom is Found in the Calm.

You might think that this is obvious, but it took me far too long to learn: wisdom is found in the calm, in the quiet, in peace.

When I think about this, I realise how little I make space for wisdom.

My life can be an endless torrent of busyness, pressure and noise. These are not the ideal circumstances for calm, right?!

To find wisdom, your life needs to resemble a library more than it does a nightclub.

🤷‍♂️ What can we learn from this idea?

Ultimately, I need to make space to get wiser; to consolidate this understanding, knowledge, good judgment, or however else you would personally define wisdom.

It’s all about finding ways of less distractions and slowing down. Practically speaking this could be:

  • Get away from distractions. Using the “do not disturb” feature of electronic devices is a great way to achieve this.

  • Walk more. Walking is typically a slower mode of transport so gives you the time and space to digest if there’s any new learnings in your life.

  • Swap intense for intimacy. Instead of spending every Friday night at the pub with the lads, maybe invite a friend round for a 1-2-1 catch up.

If you’ve got other ideas, I’d love to hear them!

It’s also worth mentioning, I’m not saying to move away from the city or to never go out with your mates, but consider if the balance reflects the life that you want to live. It doesn’t for me.

❓ What are your thoughts on this topic?

  • Is getting wiser a priority for you?

  • What other practical ways can you make your life less hurried, less busy, more calm and more peaceful?

  • Does your balance reflect the life that you want to live?

  • Wisdom can be found in the calm. Where else do you think wisdom can be found?

Consider journalling through the above questions yourself.

Also, if you want to chat about this, email or DM me! I’d love to hear from you!

✍️ What I’m Working On

I’m still working away on my journalling E-book. For those of you that missed the announcement last week, I have had to delay it, but it should be out in quarter 1 of 2023! I’m really excited for you to get your hands on it! It’ll be worth the wait!

I’ve also begun buying stuff to kick off a Youtube channel in 2023! I have currently spent over £2,000 on equipment, and all of this money has come from people like you supporting my work! Thank you all for your support with this. To be the first to know when I upload to YouTube, please subscribe here

Lastly, this is a time of celebration, and I just wanted to voice how much I appreciate you! This year has been truly life-changing for me, and your support has been a huge part of that. Thank you and Merry Christmas!
