What I Learned from Simon, Harvey and Jane

3 Principles to Make Your Wiser This Year

Last week, I shared that I have been fortunate enough to meet a lot of wise people since the start of 2024.

This week’s issue is the second part of that newsletter, highlighting another 3 wise people and what wisdom they have imparted.

If you want to revisit last week’s newsletter, you can do so here, but let’s start this issue with getting wiser with one of the nicest people that I have ever met

⚡️ Simon Alexander Ong (Energize)

Meeting Simon was ENERGIZING.

I spoke with him for less than 5 minutes, but it was enough to recognise one thing:

Your energy is infectious.

When Simon approached me, he was filled with a sense of enthusiasm and purpose.

I couldn’t help but be energized by Simon’s presence. I found myself carrying that throughout the rest of the event and the days that followed.

If you want to energize other people, you need to be energized yourself.

Simon speaks many words of wisdom.

I first heard him talk on Ali Abdaal’s Deep Dive podcast.

You can watch that episode here:

And to draw upon his insights even more, consider purchasing his book Energize here:

🎸 Harvey Lee (Backstage Pass)

I’ve been fortunate to connect with a lot of great people through LinkedIn. Harvey Lee is one of them.

It turned out that we had both booked to go to Ali Abdaal’s and Sahil Bloom’s event in London back in January, so we made the most of the evening by going out for a meal before the main event.

Whilst eating, Harvey spoke about his new book: Backstage Pass.

He was passionately sharing anecdotes that form parts of the book from his time in the music industry and business.

I could tell that he believed in his book, and wanted others to benefit from the wisdom from his life experience.

Later in the evening, I found myself being impressed as I watched Harvey literally put his book in the hands of myself, Simon Alexander Ong, Sahil Bloom and many more.

This brings me on to the second nugget of wisdom:

If you have a message worth sharing, make sure that you give people a chance to hear it.

Harvey believed in his book, and made sure that he gave it the best chance to flourish by giving away copies to people that could bring more attention to it.

He’s got a message and he’s making sure that it’s being heard.

You have your own story, and I am confident that there’s hundreds (if not thousands) of people that would benefit from hearing it.

Consider how you could start sharing your message today.

Harvey’s book has only just launched!

50% Rock & Roll. 50% Business. 100% True.

💨 Jane Tarrant (LiNK BREATHING)

What do you do when you love personal development and you discover that you live in the same town as someone who has delivered a TEDx Talk?

You invite them out for a coffee!

This week I had the pleasure to speak with Jane Tarrant, and she gave me A LOT to think about.

It’s rare that you meet someone who is an authentic as Jane.

Even though it was the first time we met, we spoke as if we were old friends, sharing some of the realities that we face juggling entrepreneurship, social life, family commitments, and much, much more.

But the wise principle that Jane lives and breathes is all to do with her TED Talk (pun intended).

I won’t spoil it for you because I think that you should watch it yourself, but it’s safe to say that:

Just because something ‘works’ does not mean that it can’t be improved.

We all breathe. In fact, I have over 30 years experience breathing. I’ve definitely done my 10,000 hours of breathing, so you’d think I’d be a breathing expert.

But speaking with Jane, it became apparent that even small changes to our breathing habits can have life-changing benefits.

I’ve been able to apply this wise principle to much of what I do.

Even the visuals I produce have evolved since I first started posting them in May 2022.

Sure, they worked back then, but they’re far better now than they use to be!

Just because something ‘works’ does not mean that it can’t be improved.

I highly recommend checking out this quick 15-minute video of Jane’s TED Talk:

And your team would benefit from improving its breathing habits.

✍️ Journal Prompts

• Your energy is infectious - is it positive or negative energy?
• What is your story? What are you doing to make sure it’s heard?
• Could your breathing habits improve?

Consider journaling through the above questions yourself.
